[LMBTO] Danny Finn - UK Eurovision loses yet another name...

For those of us with long Eurovision memories, here are Prima Donna singing "Love Enough For Two" at the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest in The Hague:
1980 is normally remembered for being the start of Johnny 'Mr Eurovision' Logan's career at the ESC but the UK came a respectable third that year with 106 points.  The reason for bringing this up at the busiest time of the 2016 Eurovision calendar is not for a history lesson - it's as a tribute to the lead singer of Prima Donna, Danny (Kevin) Finn who passed away on 22nd February 2016 after a short illness.  I found this out yesterday initially via one of the Facebook groups I follow and then looked at the news at The New Seekers group, as Danny had sung with them:
A real tragedy at a relatively young 65 years old, Danny had a superb voice and carried the whole performance as the lead singer (despite more recognisable faces such as Sally Ann Triplett and Kate Robbins being there).  It may be a little bit cheesey and it was obviously based on the successful 'Guys & Dolls' formula of the mid 1970s (three guys + three girls = three couples) but there is something quite comforting, lyrical and very uplifting about it all, something that brings a smile to any face:

I know many Eurovision fans have a lot of fondness for this entry and will be sad that the driving vocal behind it is no longer with us.  Fans of The New Seekers will be very sad as he sung in the group (admittedly not at their second place at Eurovision 1972) and he was married for many years to Eve Graham, one of the original stars of the band.  In a way, it was a marriage of Eurovision royalty:
Out of all the Eurovision artists, commentators and associated celebrities I have paid tribute to in this blog, Danny's passing has probably had the least coverage in the media of all of them.  Probably because his time in the limelight didn't last that long, possibly because Prima Donna only came third in The Hague and more than likely that "Love Enough For Two" wasn't a song or a performance that created too many waves.  Even so, it was a vocal that stays in your subconscious for ever, the ultimate earworm that lies dormant for years and then you hear yourself humming or singing the song as soon as it powers up on ESC Radio or YouTube!  Writing in an age of technological wizardry and visual wows, the simplicity and purity of the UK 1980 entry portrays a timeless quality of an era where it was all about how well the song was sung - in Danny's case, that was defined as 'flawlessly'!  Those two minutes and 55 seconds in The Netherlands are the ultimate tribute to this understated singer...

RIP Danny (Kevin) Finn : 1950 - 2016
