Goodbye to 2018 and Hello to 2019!
Now how could I adequately cover New Year with Eurovision songs? How about those that involve the following?
Parties...
Discos...
Alcohol...
and
The Concept Of Time!
That last one accounts for the lovely Mariya Yaremchuk from Ukraine, in front of one of the most bizarre props in Eurovision history on the Copenhagen stage, with her song "Tick Tock" winning what turned out to be the first NF that I ever covered in this very blog. I promised that I'd put a show out on January 1st 2019, even if I wasn't able to broadcast live and so I did, it all being themed and hopefully it all being enjoyable. The tracks I have selected aren't all party tunes as it was broadcast at 1pm on NEW YEAR'S DAY, not Eve - here they are:
"Time" - Izabo
"Vi maler byen rød" - Birthe Kjær
"Wir geben 'ne Party" - Mekado
"In The Disco" - Deen
"Horepse" - Marianna Zorba
"One Step Out Of Time" - Michael Ball
"Vodka" - Morena
"A Matter Of Time" - SENNEK
"Tick Tock" - Mariya Yaremchuk
"Congratulations" - Silvía Night
"The Party's Over" - Sandra Reemer
"Hour Of The Wolf" - Elnur Huseynov
"What's Another Year" - Johnny Logan
"Let Me Be The One" - The Shadows
It fitted perfectly into the hour slot that my show normally lasts for, with a real mix of old and new, some for all the family and one that the EBU allowed out on CD with an obscenity that I had to bleep out - guess which song that was:
Whenever you get to listen, I hope that you all had a great end to 2018 and that you are as excited as me for what 2019 holds, at least as far as Eurovision is concerned. Now that was show 22 - show 23 is a real evolution as far as "Let Me Be The One" is concerned:
All future episodes will be TWO hours long
Albania selected Jonida Maliqi and "Ktheju tokës" for Tel Aviv
Cyprus revealed Tamta who will pick up the mantle of Eleni Foureira
and
Loreen won the ESC Top 250 for the 7th time!
I suspect that there will be more big news to report next week but all of the tracks on the show will be hopefully related to Eurovision 2019. Having said that, I think that getting to show 23 with only playing The Shadows, Charpentier and two versions of "Storm" more than once is going some, so I might start to slip some of the 258 tracks that I have already played back into the mix. It will be necessary as we get nearer to Tel Aviv anyway, as I will only be able to resist playing "Toy" again for so long, what with Netta almost certainly playing a big part in the May proceedings. So until you listen again in a week's time, I'll leave this picture with you and pose you a question:

How will these guys fit into the first live show of 2019?
