Laura Rizzotto chats about that and her Eurovision experience with Martin on LET ME BE THE ONE!
Now this episode of my radio show and associated article here is a real privilege for me - Laura was an artist I really wanted to interview this summer, given that I followed her Eurovision path throughout 2018 but never really finished it off with a closing interview. A couple of weeks ago, we sorted a convenient time to chat and came up with what you will hear on the show - it doesn't cover her path up to Eurovision in any detail as we did that when I spoke to her at the Eurovision In Concert 2018 Press Event, AFAS Live, Amsterdam. Have a listen to that here:
Three years on and Laura has sung at Eurovision, presented the Latvian Jury points at Tel Aviv, been involved in an AR project, appointed to the Recording Academy and also has released multiple tracks that have all appeared on this show! She covers all these points and more during our chat on this week's show - hour one is all about Laura...
And the playlist? So you know which of her songs were played, plus who was on hour two, here you go:

It was so good to see and chat with her again - not quite the same as meeting face to face as we did at her Meet & Greet at the Eurovillage in Lisbon on Jury Final night but still a lovely experience:
Hearing her positivity for all things Eurovision was a real plus and her saying that she had been recommended for the American Song Contest was a real wow moment - here's hoping that the rule on 'Americans only' is not a hard and fast one! The fact that Laura said that she would do Supernova again but that the song she would enter with would be totally different to "Funny Girl" is an intriguing prospect - I would so go to Latvia for their selection process if that was the case! As far as METASTAGE (available at all good apps stores) and her joining the Recording Academy were concerned, I knew that information already but wanted to flag up how incredibly talented and also how well connected this lady is within the music industry. As for "Strangers", you got to hear it on the show and you can also watch that special one take video:
Carolina was indeed videoing the whole thing and it was interesting to hear how her ballet training made filming this a better visual experience - Carolina was able to dress down for her role in the piece!
It was a pleasure to see Laura move around in this video as normally she is 'tied' to her instrumentation or either guitar or keyboard. So we have not long until the next release from Laura - no clues in the interview unless I totally missed them! Fingers crossed that when normal international travel returns to the world, she makes it to the UK to perform - AND I WILL BE THERE! And I honestly did not prompt her for her kind words at the end...
As I said above, chatting with Laura Rizzotto was a massive highlight for me - not only one of my favourite artists from Eurovision but also one of my favourite people. We have chatted on and off since we began our social media talks back in early 2018 - I hope that continues and I can bring any new releases to the show. Of my 'interviewee wish list' for this summer, I have talked with both singers that were there (Laura plus Lisa Jayne Porter/Andreas) - will I manage to chat with the others? Wait and see...
Next week is likely to be back to the regular LET ME BE THE ONE mix of news and new releases, the lady above covering both categories. You might not know who she is - this is Clara Rubsensson and there was a chance that she might have tried out for Melodifestivalen 2021 with a retro pop song but instead someone else got to sing it at Eurovision, someone with sunglasses...
