Sam on stage yet again, this time for the Queen...
UK Eurovision rejuvenated!

And so we move away from show 200 and our moments of 2022, and onto what is normally a quiet time, the close season for Eurovision.  That would be in a normal world but we already have news for 2023, long before the official start date of September 1st!  UK, Albania, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria and Italy have all announced over the past week that they will be at Eurovision 2023 and Israel plus Spain have provided more details about how their entries will happen.  How did that get revealed during the show?  Have a listen...

And the playlist...

"Spirit In The Sky" - KEiiNO
"On Fire" - THE ROOP
"Nocturne" - Secret Garden
"Tu te reconnaîtras" - Anne-Marie David
"SPACE MAN" (Platinum Jubilee Edit) - Sam Ryder

"Shockwave" - Eline Noelia
"Neon Lights" - Loreen
"you & i" - Malik Harris

"Llámame" - WRS
"Dancing Lasha Tumbai" - Go_A

"Higher" (acoustic version) - Suzy Gerra
"growing up is getting old" - VICTORIA
"Run To The Hills" - Klara Hammarström
"Arcade" (acoustic cover) - Amanda Tenfjord

The other big deal during the show was five new members of the LET ME BE THE ONE Eurovision Facebook Group having their favourite ever Eurovision entry played on the show.  Kicking us off was:
KEiiNO with "Spirit In The Sky" for Diana...
THE ROOP and "On Fire" for Ona...
Secret Garden with "Nocturne" for Yiannis...
Anne-Marie David and "Tu te reconnaîtras" for Rob; and
of course Sam Ryder with "SPACE MAN" for Lauren!  I will continue to be on the look-out for more fans of the show/blog to invite to the LMBTO Eurovision Facebook Group, with the bonus that they get their favourite entry played too.  One other item I mentioned was about a great YouTube feature for Chanel's journey in 2022 - well worth the 20 minute watch:

I will almost certainly be at the first one of those at The Water Rats in London on 13th August and I hope to see plenty of you there!
Now if you add in Sunderland and Sheffield to the ESCXtra map above, you will have all 14 of the locations in the United Kingdom who have, within 48 hours of it being announced, stated that they would be interested in hosting Eurovision.  Now this is obviously an ongoing story, with the EBU deciding that Ukraine is not safe enough to stage Eurovision in 2023, the BBC now entering into negotiations about staging next year's contest and Ukraine obviously not being happy about it.  I will discuss it a bit more on next week's show and then go into things in detail with the blog article accompanying show 202.  So instead of Lyiv and Kyiv, we might well be going to Manchester or Glasgow - we might even be returning to the last host city in the UK back in 1998, Birmingham, where the UK's entry came second yet again:
Imanni with "Where Are You?"...
An apt question for the search for the Host City of 2023!
