Freya Skye won't 'lose her head' in Yerevan, that's for sure...
So not only has the UK returned to JESC, they have what appears to be a great singer and a very good pop song. Three out of the last four Contests have been won by solo female teens with a song that would not be out of place on a commercial radio station chart. If the Junior Eurovision audience is becoming more adult (as I think it is) then "Lose My Head" could see Freya as a favourite to win in Armenia - it has definitely impressed me:
I really should watch all the JESC entries as I have done the Eurovision ones, but my limited knowledge of its twenty year history is that the early years catered more for a younger audience - that appears to have changed in the 2020s. Not many entries have been released so far for this year's Contest, so it will be interesting to see how the UK does but confidence is high. First live performance of the entry is on Children In Need on Friday November 18th - we will have a better idea then of Freya's chances. Good luck to her with that and it was an excellent way to kick off this week's show:

Based purely on previous results, the highlighted artists are likely to be the pre-show favourites for this year's title. Given that last year's Contest was absolutely jammed packed with recognisable artists to us Eurovision fans, with lots of returnees and past Eurovision acts, it is a surprise that the only one who has been to Eurovision before is Robin Juhkental as frontman of Malcolm Lincoln back in 2010. STEFAN, Stig Rästa and Kjetil Mørland all appear with songwriting credits though - December is when we will hear the entries themselves.
And these are the Belgian Seven, with Tom Dice being the recognisable face from 2010, now part of The Starlings with wife Kato, although fans of "She's After My Piano" will also recognise Loredana! The musos will also appreciate Gustaph, who is vocal coach to SENNEK and Geike of Hooverphonic. Cherine Mroue, Hunter Falls, Ameerah and Gala Dragot make up the other artists to sing at Eurosong 2023. It will be great to have Belgium back on the National Final lists again. Talking of favourites, it was time for Hungary to shine in the LMBTO's Nation Favourite poll:
Not as big a runaway winner as some polls but "What About My Dreams?" was still a clear #1 with the fans of the show - a popular 'banger' at every Euroclub and disco has kept it in the fandom's hearts and memorability. Hungary always brought a diversity of musical styles to the Contest not seen with some other nations - fingers crossed that one day in the future A Dal will be used to find a Eurovision entry, rather than what it has become, a contest to find Hungarian music for Hungary. The other favourites of the show were the choices of one new member of the LMBTO Eurovision Facebook Group - Valentinos Gilbert...
Amina's classic 1991 entry "C'est Le Dernier Qui A Parlé Qui A Raison" is his all time Eurovision favourite, whereas his top National Final track was this one:
Elvana Gjata's "Me Tana" from FiK58, the uptempo pop track that was perhaps a few years ahead of its time, at least as far as Albania were concerned. Great choices both by Valentinos! Perhaps Amina might appear somewhere in the annual end-of-year poll that I flagged up this week:
Yes, it is the Loreen Show ESC Top 250 chart which has opened its voting to the fandom. The top 250 will be played on New Year's Eve between 11am and 11pm GMT, with top tens accepted up to 11pm GMT on Sunday December 4th. I have yet to decide how to apportion my ten votes this year, given that I always choose a new topic and 2021 saw my Ultimate Top Ten, having watched/listened to all the Eurovision entries up to 2021. I will not do the same for 2022, as none of the entries this year broke into that list - decisions, decisions!
Show 223 will hopefully be as busy as Eurofest was this Friday! This was the crowd eagerly anticipating the arrival of this lady:
She will also be one of the artists on next week's show!
